Versatality of facial artery musculomucosal flap in medium sized defects following ablation of oral cancers - A case series
نویسندگان
چکیده
Facial artery musculomucosal flaps (FAMM) are frequently utilised to restore medium-sized abnormalities after surgical removal of oral malignancies. This case series provides an overview how patients chosen for FAMM flap surgery, the operative anatomy, procedure, and benefits in reconstruction.

Facial artery musculomucosal flap for reconstruction of skull base defects: a cadaveric study.
OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS Failure in skull base defects reconstruction following tumor resection can have serious consequences such as ascending meningitis and pneumocephaly. The nasoseptal flap showed a very low incidence of cerebrospinal fluid leak but is not always available. The superiorly pedicled facial artery musculomucosal (FAMM) flap has been successfully used for reconstruction of head an...
متن کاملModified Facial Artery Musculomucosal Flap for Reconstruction of Posterior Skull Base Defects
Objectives The superiorly pedicled facial artery musculomucosal (FAMM) flap has been successfully used for reconstruction of head and neck defects since 1992. Common sites of defects include the oral cavity and oropharynx. This article presents a clinical case in which we have successfully used a newly developed modification of the FAMM flap for bulky nasopharyngeal and skull base reconstructio...
متن کاملReconstruction of floor of mouth defects by the facial artery musculo-mucosal flap following cancer ablation.
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study is to review our experience with the use of the facial artery musculo-mucosal (FAMM) flap for floor of mouth (FOM) reconstruction following cancer ablation to assess its reliability, associated complications, and functional results. METHODS This was a retrospective analysis of 61 FAMM flaps performed for FOM reconstruction from 1997 to 2006. RESULTS No t...
متن کاملLip and vermilion reconstruction with the facial artery musculomucosal flap.
The lips are a complex laminated structure. When lost through injury or disease, they present a complex reconstructive challenge. The facial artery musculomucosal (FAMM) flap is a composite flap with features similar to those of lip tissue. In this article, the anatomy, dissection, and clinical applications for the use of the FAMM flap in lip and vermilion reconstruction are discussed. A series...
متن کاملThe New Transverse–Facial Artery Musculomucosal Flap for Intraoral Reconstructions
1 BACKGROUND Head/neck cancer resections often require reconstruction to restore form and function. Small-to-medium size intraoral defects can be successfully reconstructed by local pedicled flaps, such as the facial artery musculomucosal (FAMM) flap,1 which encompasses different layers: cheek mucosa and submucosa, the underlying layer of the buccinator muscle, a portion of the orbicularis oris...
